Christmas in NY

We spent Christmas in NY this year and had a great time. Even though we were on vacation, we didn't have much time to rest since we visited friends and family the whole time. When we arrived, there was a good amount of snow and it seemed like it might be a white christmas. Then the rain came on Sunday and melted it all...oh well. It was pretty cold up there too, but there were a couple of days where Ferris was colder! While we were in NY, we ate spiedies from Lupo's (spiedies are marinated cubes of meat on an Italian sub roll), went to a Binghamton Senators hockey game, visited friends and family, attended a party in our honor (see previous blog), and many other activities. Below are some pictures from our trip...

On Christmas Day, we opened gifts at Mindy's parents, then headed over to Papa and Uncle John's for breakfast and then opened more gifts. Afterwards we went over to Mindy's cousins house to visit. Santa brought the family a Nintendo Wii and everyone had lots of fun. Kevin, Mark and Steve started to work up a sweat while boxing each other. Check out the video of Kevin and Mark....

Wedding Party in NY

Our family in NY threw us a party for our wedding this past weekend. Thanks Mom, Dad, Uncle John and Papa. Everyone had a lot of fun at the American Legion in Endicott, NY. It was nice to see everyone while we were in town for the holidays. Kevin got Dad to dance to Stayin' Alive at the party. Here is the video...

Christmas in Texas

This past weekend, we celebrated Christmas in Texas at the Abbott's. We had a fun weekend visiting the Abbott's up in Bagwell, TX. Saturday night we sang Christmas carols, read the Chirstmas story from Luke 2:1-20 and opened presents. Callie received the DVD game 'Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?' Apparantly none of us are smarter than a 5th grader! haha But we had lots of fun playing the game. All of us went to bed early and left cookies and milk for Santa. Santa only left gifts for Callie. I guess Kevin and Mindy weren't on the good list. ;) Then it was off to church and then lunch afterwards. Here are some pictures...

A Star is Born

All of us went to a church function to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The theme was 'A Star is Born'. There were many games and activitis for families. Kevin and I helped out with the moon bounces and actually went down one of the slides they had. Kevin didn't fair to well on it and hurt his hand. Callie won us some goodies at the cake walk. Outside there was a live nativity scene and petting zoo. Below are some pictures ...

Prepping for the 'Lil Mavs

Tonight, Coach K showed 'Lil Dirk (aka Callie) and Mindy "The Jet" Abbott some drills and plays for the upcoming first practice of the 'Lil Mavs basketball team. Kecin will be coaching Callie's basketball team this season and both are very excited to start. This Saturday will be the first practice. A couple of the girls from our church will also be joining the team. The team will be practicing at the junior high right in Ferris, TX. We have posted some of the pre-practice pictures. Be sure to check back on our Blog for more pictures and highlights from practices and games of the 'Lil Mavs!!!

Texas National Guard Dining Out

Last Friday night, we headed out to Ft Worth to Carswell Joint Reserve Base for a Dining Out. This was the Christmas event for the 949th BSB stationed out of Ft Worth. This is probably the last formal military event that Kevin will be a part of. One being because he only has 12 months left to complete his time in service. And the second being that the buttons were about to pop off his uniform. We had a fun time out and it was nice meeting all of the service members Kevin serves with.

O' Christmas Tree

Thanksgiving night, we decided to put up the Christmas tree. We opted to buy an artificial tree this year since we will be in NY for Christmas. We had lots of fun putting up the tree and Callie did a wonderful job putting the ornaments on the tree. She placed every ornament in the right place.

The next day, we took pictures for our Christmas card this year. It was a good time and hard time trying to keep the dogs sitting still while we took a picture. Here are a few of the pictures we took.

Thanksgiving at Our Home

Well, this Thanksgiving was a big day for us. We had the Abbott's and some of Mom's sisters and family over. Our Thanksgiving festivities started the night before when Kevin prepared our Deep Fried Turkey and Mindy baked Apple and Pumpkin Pies. Callie even helped out with making the pie crust for the Apple Pie! On Thanksgiving day, we started out early and prepared the turkey and stuffing for the oven. It was a fun day and we were happy to have everyone over. The rest of the family arrived by 1pm and brought some wonderful dishes. As our guests arrived, they were asked to write down a reason why they were thanksful this Thanksgiving. Before we ate all of the wonderful food, Callie read us the story of the first Thanksgiving and the meaning behind the first dinner with the Pilgrims and Indians. We had lots of fun and lots of food.

Here are some photos to share....

Latest Abbott Outing

On November 10, Mindy and Callie attended their first rodeo. All of us headed down to the American Airlines Arena to see the Texas Stampede Rodeo and a live concert by Josh Turner after the competition. The rodeo was a lot of fun. When we first got there, Callie was very excited to see a live bull and even got to ride the mechanical bull. She even stayed on for the full 8 seconds! Yee Haw!

Check out Callie riding the bull in action....
